About AURA:

The Commission's Antimicrobial Use and Resistance in Australia (AURA) Project contributes to the AURA surveillance program, which is coordinated and funded by the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing (the Department). AURA data on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) inform strategies for infection prevention and control and antimicrobial stewardship.

About CARAlert:

The National Alert System for Critical Antimicrobial Resistances (CARAlert) is coordinated by the Commission's AURA Project. CARAlert collects, analyses and reports on nationally agreed priority organisms with critical resistances to last-line antimicrobials (CARs). Participating public and private laboratories across Australia voluntarily submit de-identified data on confirmed CARs from hospitals, aged care, and community settings to CARAlert.

About the data:

No patient-level data are held by CARAlert.

The data are based on the date that the specimen was collected.

State or territory refers to the jurisdiction within which the hospital is located, or within which the patient resides for isolates from the community. If place of residence is unknown or overseas, the state or territory of the originating laboratory is reported.

The graph displaying the number of reports by age group will not be shown if any age group has three or fewer reports.

For more information about CARAlert, methodology and considerations for analyses see Appendices of CARAlert annual reports and data updates.
